Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Terry Lee Caruthers is a special projects librarian with the Knox County Library System. She grew up surrounded by strong, female role models who nurtured her imagination and imbued her with a love of reading, writing, and storytelling. Terry credits her ninth grade English teacher, Deborah Battle, for introducing her to creative writing and her love for the classic novel, To Kill A Mockingbird.
She received both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she studied pre-law and later children's literature and services.
Terry continues to reside in South Knoxville where she shares her life with three rescue cats. She enjoys writing picture books as well as juvenile and YA novels. Vivie’s Secret is her first YA novel.
